Basketball Program On A Budget

building basketball program

There are speed and jumping skills to watch for, ball handling skills to develop, rebounding skills, court vision, balance and a whole lot more. If you’re just starting out it’s very easy to get sidetracked and lose some of the momentum you’re building by becoming too focused on one or two areas of the game. In order to have a complete program that produces results you need to develop multiple skills.

You may be wondering how you can make sure you are building a basketball program that produces results. This is really simple. When you’re putting together any type of training program or routine, if you don’t pay close attention to all the different skills involved, you will not get optimal results.

Some Sports Require Specific Skills

It doesn’t matter what sport you’re in. Some sports require specific skills. For example, tennis requires racket skill, baseball requires catching skill and golf requires balance. If you’re not focused on these particular skills then you’re going to fail. That’s just the way it is.

So how do you keep from getting side tracked? You must focus on every aspect of your basketball program. By doing this you will be able to build and properly develop all the skills necessary for basketball success. You also want to make sure you continue to do the training exercises regularly.

Focus On All Aspects Of Your Basketball Program

When I say that you should focus on all aspects of your basketball program, that means you should spend time on speed, rebounding, defense, agility and all the other skills necessary to be an excellent player. You don’t want to neglect the skills you already have. But at the same time you don’t want to overdo it. There are times when you need to lower your level of activity. For example, if you’re training for a different sport in the summer you can lower your practice or work out times.

You also want to make sure you’re doing drills that are going to build your upper body. This will help your focus on your vertical. It will also increase your flexibility and strength. And lastly but definitely not least, you need to build your lower body.

Doesn’t Take Much Time Out Of Your Schedule

The lower part of your body is where most players struggle. When I say this, I’m not saying you should be bench pressing 500 pounds. However you should do many different squats, deadlifts, chin ups and other upper body workouts. The best part about this basketball workout program is that it doesn’t take much time out of your schedule.

You can do most of these exercises whenever it’s convenient for you. You might not find a spotter in your neighborhood, so you can do some of these exercises at home. They’re simple, fun and they build great basketball skills. If you follow these simple steps, you can learn how to develop into an all-around player.

Focusing On Areas Where They Need To Improve

One of the biggest mistakes I see from new players is that they try to over focus on one aspect of their game. Instead of focusing on areas where they need to improve, they try to over focus on improving all aspects of their game. This is never a good idea because it can result in you becoming another Joe Johnson. Instead of getting better at shooting, you’re becoming better at everything else.

Here’s the secret. There is only one aspect of the game that you need to focus on and that’s the shooting aspect. Other than that, you’re already a great player. So don’t worry about any other aspect of the game. Just focus on shooting. Another mistake players make when they start a basketball program is they try to force it. They force themselves to work harder and longer. This is a bad mistake because the smarter player will always take the break. I’m not saying that you should sit in the corner and put your head down because that’s just dumb.

Conclusion

What I’m saying is that if you’re serious about playing basketball, then you must take the time to focus on one thing. If you want to build a good program, make sure you’re putting that one thing on your to do list. Then go ahead and dedicate the rest of your time into practice. The more practice you get with a basketball program, the better results you’ll have. In the end, the best players are the ones who put in the work and they know how to build a basketball program correctly.
