Byu Basketball Schedule – Non-Conference Schedule
BYU will open the regular season on November 9 against Cleveland State at the Marriott Center. BYU will face six teams that played in the NCAA tournament last season. The six teams include, in order, the Cleveland State, San Diego State on November 12 in Provo, Oregon on November 16 in Portland, Texas Southern on November 24 in Provo, Utah State on December 8 in Provo, Creighton on December 11 in Sioux Falls, Vanderbilt/Hawaii on December 23.
BYU will have two games against non-division programs in Central Methodist and Westminster. But there is no scarcity of excellent teams on the 2021-22 schedule. Cleveland won the Horizon League Tournament last season, and Missouri State was a Top 100 in the NET rankings last season.
Byu Basketball Schedule – Plans Ahead
It is Mark Pope’s third season as the head coach of the BYU basketball program. Last year they played the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015. The Cougars received a 6-seed before falling to UCLA in the first round. The first two years of Mark Pope have gathered difficult non-conference slates, leading to impressive at-large resumes. Nick Robinson, the BYU assistant coach, is in charge of the Cougar’s non-conference schedule. Starting with the intention of creating as tough of a schedule as possible the past year, Nick and Pope ended up as the 65th best non-conference states in college hoops. So, let us look at what they have ahead.
There is a multi-team event on December 22, 23, and 25 in Honolulu, participating in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. BYU had scheduled a game against Arizona State last December, but COVID-19 hindered those plans. Then the four-game quadruple-header was rescheduled for December 18th, 2021. It is USC vs. Georgia Tech, stepping in instead of BYU and ASU.
