Knowing Your Top Three Leadership Skills

Knowing Your Top Three Leadership Skills

People take leadership skills for granted. I believe we are far too low on leadership, and yet it is critical to the success of our company and our country. So, what are the top leadership skills? This article focuses on leading by example.

Encourage People

In business, the skill of being a leader is no longer enough. Each leader must understand and embrace the importance of encouraging their employees to be leaders. Leadership is not just about leading by example. It’s about leading by empowering others with the principles of courage, compassion, and integrity. These principles instill confidence in others, which in turn inspires them to go above and beyond the call of duty.

If you’re anything like me, you want to make your team do better work. You want to help them achieve their potential. You want to help build their confidence and inspire them to stand up for what they believe in.

While we might want to build our co-worker’s confidence, there are some things we can’t force anyone to do. For example, a hungry puppy will eat anything – including your leg.

Giving Them A Vision

Leadership is not about having a bunch of subordinates who say, “I’m going to follow your lead.” It’s about giving someone a vision that inspires them to take action.

Listen up! I want to break down these leadership skills into three basic categories—first, leadership by example, then leadership by learning, and finally, leadership by communication.

Leadership, by example, requires that we show the people around us how well we’ve done, and how much we want to contribute. Most of all, it requires us to encourage our co-workers to see themselves as leaders. That means more of us, more inspiring people, who will continue to go above and beyond the call of duty.

Leadership, by example, requires that we explain to our team the value of making a difference, building leadership within them. The team member’s leadership development comes from inspiring them to reach for their dreams.

Strengthen The Efforts– Leadership Skills

Leadership by learning is about strengthening the efforts of our team to find their dreams and to share them with us. We learn how each person contributes to our overall mission, and we expand our knowledge to include everyone’s talents and skills. A team where everyone shares equally provides more effectively than a group where one person rules.

Good teams are also committed to building their relationships. As leaders, we encourage each other to reach out to others, to cultivate our leadership skills. And most of all, we celebrate the hard work of our colleagues, no matter what the size of their group.
